Hello everyone - I hope that you all had a nice day off from school and that you're gearing up for your week of full responsibility. It will be a challenging yet very rewarding experience. You'll learn a lot about the students and a lot about your strengths and areas of challenge as a new teacher. I recommended writing in your journal as soon as possible after the day has ended to preserve all that happened so that you can reflect on the day's events. Of course, the best of plans may have to be altered to meet the needs of your students, so be sure to keep that in mind. And, if you have any questions and concerns as you take over, I am just an email or text away! Good luck, and I'll see Anna, Jill, and Erin next Friday for Ob. 4 and Tina on Tuesday 11/29. I know you are all going to do a wonderful job! Mary
Hello Anna, Erin, Tina, and Jill -
I made a Wiki for us to try out. I have used a Wiki in a class I taught at Holyoke Community College but it has been a while. I do remember the students liking it very much and it was a great way to post thoughts and ideas about what was happening in class. So, sicne chapter 4 was on emerging technologies I thought I would start one for our group. Let me know if you are able to access it.

This is a good video regarding 10 mistakes that new teachers make. Take a look and post your comment here.
Anna your Sp seems very good with setting high standards and sticking to them. I am happy that you liked the video and that it got you thinking about ways to prevent making the same mistakes.
Hi! I just watched the video... I can totally see how those are the biggest mistakes being made by new teachers. I can especially relate to not being consistent with rules and classroom management, overworking, and minimal parent communication. I definitely have a hard time sticking to the same strict rules and don't want to be seen as the "bad guy", but I know how important it is to be strict in the begin in order to create your desired environment. Luckily, I have an SP who is great at setting her standards high and sticking to them. As for overworking, I am very guilty even in student teaching. I will do things after school, come home and work, and then get up early and review for the day. The worst part is I'm still a little nervous so all that over preparing probably didn't help at all. Finally, I understand why new teachers do not have strong communication with parents. It can be very intimidating to talk to parents particularly if what you need to share is not good news. I think that by watching this video it has helped me really think about the things I do and probably will do and by thinking about it I can do my best to prevent these mistakes. Also, if you talk about it you can come up with strategies to help avoid these things or at least minimize the damage. - Anna
